Darius Wright, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
You may be used to handling things on your own.
Maybe you know something isn't working, but you're not interested in sitting around talking about your feelings without knowing where the conversation is going. You may be dealing with anxiety, the effects of past experiences, pressure in your relationships, depression, a major transition, or the expectations you place on yourself to keep performing even when something feels off.
You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. You just have to be willing to look at what's happening and be open to doing something differently.
Darius works with teens ages 15 and older and adults who want to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives. He has a particular interest in working with men, Pacific Islanders, and people from communities where seeking therapy may not always feel familiar, comfortable, or like something that was meant for them.
What it's like to work with Darius
Therapy with Darius is collaborative, practical, and active.
He isn't there to tell you how to live your life or assume he has the answers for you.
Instead, he'll help you look more closely at what's happening, understand the patterns that may be contributing to it, and figure out what actually makes sense for you.
That might mean looking at how you respond when you're under pressure, the beliefs you've developed from past experiences, patterns that continue to show up in your relationships, or the ways you've learned to cope that may have worked for you before but aren't working as well anymore.
The goal isn't simply to understand why you do what you do. It's to use that understanding to help you make different choices when it matters.
Therapy for men
Darius has found his work with men particularly meaningful.
Many men have learned to keep moving, solve the problem, push through, or handle things themselves. That can work for a long time—until it doesn't.
Therapy doesn't require you to become a different kind of person. It can be a place to understand what's underneath the stress, anger, anxiety, disconnection, relationship difficulties, or pressure you're carrying and develop ways of responding that actually work for you.
You don't have to be good at talking about your feelings to begin.
Culture matters here
Who you are and where you come from do not exist separately from what brings you to therapy.
Family, culture, identity, community, expectations, and the roles you've learned to carry can all influence how you understand yourself, relationships, strength, responsibility, and asking for help.
Darius brings an awareness of these experiences into his work while leaving room for you to define what they mean in your own life.
You won't be expected to leave important parts of yourself outside the room.
His approach
Darius primarily works from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with mindfulness, solution-focused approaches, and motivational interviewing.
For clients working through trauma, he is also trained in evidence-based trauma treatments including Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Schema Therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and trauma-informed CBT.
Those names may or may not mean much to you.
What matters is that Darius has different ways of working and can draw from them based on what you're experiencing, what you want from therapy, and what is actually useful to you.
You might be a good fit if...
You know something needs to change, even if you don't know exactly what that change looks like yet.
You're willing to be part of the process rather than expecting someone else to give you all the answers.
And you're looking for therapy that gives you space to understand yourself while also helping you do something with what you discover.
